FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions Q. What type of experience should my dog walker have? A. You'll want someone who has a good idea of dog behavior, is able to diffuse problems between dogs before they start, who knows basic first aid, and has a genuine love for dogs. Some dog walkers have a long history with pet care and have been trained in such things as obedience and first aid. Q.Can I ask that my dog be kept on-leash at all times? A. Absolutely! Some dog walkers only do on-leash walks, some do off-leash hikes with a group of dogs, and some do a combination. Talk with your dog walker to determine what's best for your dog. Q. Will my dogs need to be vaccinated? A. Most dog walkers will require that your pets be vaccinated against rabies, DHLPP, and Bordatella (kennel cough). They may also require that your dog be on some sort of flea preventive. Q.How often should a dog be walked? A. It depends on the age and breed, but generally dogs need at least two 30 minute walks per day. Q. What sort of identification does my dog need? A. Every dog should have a couple of forms of identification. Name tags and collars get lost. Tattoos and embedded micro-chips will back up the name tag. You should carry a clear photo of the dog, which can aid in recovery. Also some areas of the country require a dog license; check with your town offices. Q. What is Beach Etiquette for Dogs A. Always clean up after your dog by using a poop bag or pooper scooper. Keep your dog leashed around other beach-goers or other leashed dogs out of respect. If using an official off-leash area, your dog needs to be well-behaved and must listen to your verbal commands. |
